AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!Apr 17, 2009

This is by far one of my most favorite products now! I purchased this from another website (Vitacost.com) at a good price. I was searching for a product to use as an all-over moisturizer (literally, from head to toe) and I came across this product on that website. From previous purchases of Alba products, I already knew that the product would be all-natural, which is what I wanted it to be. I also wanted it to not contain petroleum or any petroleum-based products, such as propyl glycol, mineral oil, etc. I am a medical doctor and a former chemist, so please allow me to give you a brief scientific/health perspective. At the microscopic level, applying petroleum to your skin is like wrapping it in plastic; your cells are unable to breathe. Petroleum is really toxic to our skin, but it is cheap to manufacture, which means that more products can be made from it and sold at cheaper prices. Hence, the multi-billion dollar beauty industry which has clearly profited so much from developing and distributing petroleum-based products. I wish to God, I had heard about and began to use this product years ago! Apparently (as mentioned by the other reviewer), Alba's Unpetroleum has been around for at least 10 years! Well, after the overnight results I have seen in using this amazing product, it will become a regular household staple. I use this as a baby lotion and hair moisturizer for my son. I use it on my hands, my feet, and more importantly, on my scalp for my hair. It is a great moisturizer for the skin/scalp, especially for African descendants because we tend to have dry skin/scalp. There is absolutely NO oily residue or build-up in your hair. I have dredlocks. So, I have replaced using other products, which may have contained petroleum and/or mineral oil (like Murray's beeswax), in place of this. This product contains the following ingredients: castor oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and Vitamin E. THAT'S IT! All natural ingredients! It does have a slight smell of castor oil, which is not overpowering and the smell of it fades within a minute or so after applying it. The texture is JUST LIKE any petroleum jelly that you are familiar with. But, it contains absolutely no petroleum! I love this product and highly recommend it.

It's simpy the BEST!Feb 20, 2007
By Serenity I've been using this product for over 10 years. It does everything a petroleum jelly does but without all the nastiness of using a by-product of the sludge at the bottom of an oil barrel!
This item is pure and natural and has almost no scent or flavor. I would highly recommend it to fully replace the more toxic conterpart of petroleum.

This product definitely hydrates in an instant. However, only use it at bedtime on eyes and forehead. spreads funky, but when I woke up in the morning I looked so radiant (not my normal morning look).

i love this stuffOct 26, 2010
By michelephant I gave up petroleum-based toiletries years ago (not because mineral oil & petroleum application to skin is like wrapping cells in plastic wrap-- c'mon, naturalNess, exaggerate much? i can offer many reasons why it makes sense to drop mineral oil & petroleum products, but that's not one of them-- human skin actually responds very well to mineral oil & petrolatum-- hence the popularity of baby oil & vaseline, and why so many of us who are so happy to have found this product were looking for such a product to begin with. we love what vaseline feels like and achieves, we just don't like what it IS), and had been making do with various plant-based oils, butters and salves. my skin is as great as ever... but every winter, i'd think back to the economical and effective standby that my mother always had at the ready for chapped lips, noses and elbows and wish there was an equivalent plant-based product out there.
thank goodness there IS.
alba's un-petroleum jelly is so close in texture, consistency, skin-feel and emollience to that of vaseline that most people simply can't tell the two products apart*. if you've been looking for a non-petroleum-based, or plant-based, alternative to vaseline, THIS. IS. IT.
though it's not as gosh-dang CHEAP as actual vaseline, it will still last a very long time and prove to be a good purchase over that time. i know that one of the supposed pluses of vaseline and other petrolatum products is that they don't ever really spoil, no matter how much light, air and foreign matter they're exposed to (inorganic, does not go rancid and is therefore pretty much indefinitely shelf-stable; fully oil-based, and therefore does not readily support the colonization efforts of bacteria, yeast, funguses or other life-- it stays pretty clean), but alba's formulation includes a healthy dose of vitamin E in two forms, both of which are, presumably, intended to extend the shelf life of the plant oils used in the formula. while Alba's un-petroleum, being a natural and plant-based product, is destined for eventual spoilage, the vitamin E and the closed, opaque tube container should stave off oxidation for at least a year. My current tube is nearly a year-and-a-half old, and there has been no noticeable change in color, texture, scent or performance. While I do indulge in fancy-pants serums and exotic oils for my face, this has become my go-to tube for my much-abused hands and feet, and my chapped lips and nose during winter racing and nose-blowing season. it has become invaluable. i wish there was a vegan version!
*(ps btw, there is a *slight* difference in how they absorb into the skin, but it's not noticeable to most and your skin will still feel *excellent* after use. i also want to recruit a male marathoner to try this instead of vaseline in a race to see if it holds up as long-distance chafing protection as well as vaseline does, but so far i haven't had any volunteers...)

So much better than Elizabeth Arden!Aug 28, 2009

I love love love this stuff! My face is dry and sensitive, so I need all the moisture that I can get. At night time, I remove makeup, wash my face, use my toner, then moisturize my face and eyes and finish with a thick jelly to seal everything in and give my face a little extra hydration. Before I discovered this, I was using Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream. The Elizabeth Arden worked well, but there were several problems with it.
1. The smell. The 8 hour cream has fragrance (not at all good for my sensitive skin), and the smell was awful. My boyfriend wouldn't even come near me when I was wearing it.
2. The mineral oil. It burned my skin a bit. It didn't cause breakouts or redness, but it wasn't very soothing at all.
3. The price. I spend a bit more on my beauty products, but I try to mix the expensive with the cheap and try to find cheaper solutions that are still good quality. The 8 Hour Cream was about $25, so it wasn't crazy expensive, but it was still more than I would have liked to spend considering how much I use.
With the Un-Petroleum Jelly, all these issues were solved. It has no smell, no added fragrance, no mineral oil, feels oh so luscious when I put it on, and you can't beat the price. It's perfect in every way. When I finish putting all of my other things on my face, I put this all over, including under my eyes, on the eyelid, eyelashes and eyebrows. My lashes and brows feel so much more hyrdrated and my skin looks flawless. It just shows, if you like the idea of a product, search around, do some research and see what else you can find until you've found the perfect solution. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!
