5This soap is saving my face!Nov 26, 2009
By jerake "jerake"
A little background information: I have always had breakout-prone skin, always, as well as slightly oily. I've been using Proactiv (benzoyl peroxide) for years, since about 1998, and while it helped control the breakouts, it never eliminated it completely. In the last few years, I've had some hormonal issues, and of course have grown older (your body does change over the years, after all), but about a year ago my face turned 16 again and began breaking out in earnest (I'm 34, so this was not something I expected to deal with in my advancing years). The acne was pretty bad, my face turned extremely oily/greasy, and at first I tried eliminating foods from my diet (milk, mostly), moving to other products temporarily besides Proactiv...everything made it better for a few days, then the madness on my face would return. In desperation, I tried Murad (salicylic acid) - that was an enormous mistake. Again, at first, everything cleared up somewhat...but then every pore on my face revolted, my face was literally covered in acne. I thought it was this "purging" process they claimed would happen, but it never went away, it simply got worse. People were actually asking me what was wrong with my face; I didn't want to leave the house. There are many theories posited as to why I reacted so badly - maybe I'm allergic to such high amounts of Salicylic acid? Maybe I have sensitive skin after years of using Proactiv? Who knows...so, I tossed the Murad and took another look at Burt's Bees.

I'd been using Burt's Bees lip glosses (which I adore, such a better alternative to lipstick!), so I thought I'd give some of their acne/facial washes a try...I had to do something, so instead of harsh chemicals I thought my face needed something gentle and natural to heal (seriously, we're talking open wounds on my face in some areas). I went out and bought Burt's Soap Bark wash, as well as this Tomato soap, and Burt's Acne Wash...I figured I'd give the Tomato soap a try first. The first thing I noticed, as others had mentioned - it rinses off clean and my face FEELS clean, but not stripped or tight; it also has eliminated all the oil/grease on my face as well. And, it really does smell like Tomato leaves (I personally like the smell). I've been using this soap twice a day now for a week, followed by a little lotion (not Burt's, but that's next on the list), and...in less than 1 week my face has almost completely turned around. It's not perfect, not by a long shot, but I feel like I can leave the house at this point! I woke up this morning and was amazed when I looked in the mirror. I do plan on getting the Tomato toner to go with this, as I've read some good reviews when used together with the soap. I just tossed all those other facial cleansers - this soap has truly saved my face.

UPDATE: Have been using this soap for the last few weeks, and this soap is a true miracle. While it does cause my skin to flake a bit (as another reviewer stated), my oily skin is gone, and my face just looks fabulous overall. I still have issues with blemishes, the aftermath of the Murad - but NOTHING near what I was experiencing. It's even gotten rid of some older small scars I had on my face, and older acne remnants. Thanks, Burt's Bees!

UPDATE #2: Been using this same soap for over a year now, and my face continues to look fantastic. I get the occaisional blemish, but the horror that was my face a year ago is a distant memory. Can't say enough good things about this soap!

4Very good product.Jan 03, 2006
By Stacey Norman "Makeup & Beauty Obsessed"
In the store, the first thing the salesman told me when he noticed I was looking at the Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap was that he's had many a customer come in to purchase it saying their doctor or dermatologist had requested they get it. Now, I can see why. It lathers just like regular soap but is soft on the face, is easily apply and rinse off. It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or irritated like regular soap or cleansers. But, as for clearing/preventing acne, so far that hasn't happened, and that's one of the main reasons I purchased it. But don't get me wrong, this is a very good product and if you aren't looking for an anti-acne soap, then consider this review a 5/5.

5Finally a reprieve from oily skinApr 13, 2007
By Jill "Jill"
I have to say the first couple days I was a bit disappointed with the soap. I noticed the eruption of a lot of tiny red pimples, which made me worry that I had just wasted more money hoping for a cure. What I did immediately notice was that it got rid of the oiliness on my face. I have severely oily skin and within a couple hours after showering, my forehead is completely shiny. With this soap, the shininess was gone, all day. I decided that I would be patient and try it a little longer. I have used it about a week and I have noticed an improvement. My pores are smaller, I have fewer pimples, the oil is gone, and my skin feels softer. I had awhile back used Tretinoin and as a result developed bad rosacea on my cheeks. Every other protect I used just aggravated my skin and caused a lot of other problems. If you have problem oily skin, I'd say give the soap two weeks, and see if it can do the same for you. If your skin is really bad, you probably won't see an overnight effect. Also, I'd recommend using the tomato toner in conjunction.

5Acne no more!Aug 16, 2004
By B. Mietus "willowdawn"
I've never had horrible acne, but I've never had completely clear skin either. For the first time in my life (I'm 32) I have clear skin. I am in love with this soap. The ONLY thing that has worked like this. I have loved Burt's Bees for a long time, but just found this soap. If only I had found it sooner... oh well, I have it now.
