5Excellent Vitamin C TabletDec 24, 2008
By Charles Richardson "Charlie's Express Stop"
For some months now I have been using a brand, which I will keep anonymus, of Vitamin C from one of the wholesale clubs. It was inexpensive and you got a lot. I was getting near the end of the bottle and have a cold coming on which my sinuses are inflamed and a dry burn in my chest when I cough. I've been doing mega doses of those Vitamin C, about 1000 mg per hour, just to keep myself from getting worse.

So, today UPS shows up with my Now Foods Vitamin C. I took one tablet about 3 hours ago and not only am I not getting worse, but I am getting better. I can breathe through my nose and stuff has loosened up in my chest and burns a lot less.

Vitamin C is not only a great anti-oxident, but has anti-inflamatory properties and anti-viral properties, which makes it the best thing to use when it comes to a cold. Leave the chemicals alone, you can't hurt yourself with too much Vitamin C even if you do take too much, you're body will just expell what it doesn't need.

I also use Now Foods Quercetin with Bromelain after doing research on asthma and asthma treatments and how harmful the meds are. Since using Quercetin I haven't had an asthma attack that I've had to be hospitalized for since. This use to happen 3 or 4 times a year prior, usually during the months when windows are closed.

I believe Now Foods makes the highest quality products and foods too. I just remembered I order Now Foods Walnut Halves here on Amazon too and they too were excellent. Obviously I can't say enough about Now Foods products.

5My brother was rightMar 18, 2008
By E. Wright
Picked up a bad FLU that relapsed when I returned to work after 10 days sick leave. It started all over again and just wouldn't go away even after several visits to my doctor and several rounds of prescription drugs. I shared my problem with an older brother who lives abroad and he just had a good laught at me before boasting that he hadn't had a cold or FLU for over 30 years. What's his secret? Vitamin C. "Get C-1000 with Rose hips time released," he said. "Take about 6,000 miligrams per day. That's what they taught me in the army [Jamaican Army]" I followed his advice for a week and it worked. I am down to about 2,000 miligrams per day now for protection and I am telling all my friends with the FLU about it.

5Vitamin C w/ Rutin 500 CapsMay 21, 2010
By G. Green "Trumpit"
This is a big bottle of 1,000 mg. capsules with 50 mg. of rutin added, an important bioflavinoid. The added rutin makes the capsule a brownish color with a nice smell at least to my sense of smell. The description says that the product is gluten free, which is important to me. I take as many as I want without any stomach upset. Not sure, but the rutin may also reduce the acidity somewhat.

5A Lotta Bang For The Buck!Apr 13, 2009
By Stephanie Anderson "LUV RAT TERRIERS"
Everyone is looking for a bargain these days, but it can be hard to find a genuine one. These capsules definitely fit the bill. Fresh, good expiration date, 1000 mg each, the versatility of a capsule and 500 of them for a great price. Arrived promptly and would RECOMMEND!

5C-1000 COMPLEX vs regular. Also, Do Not Cut In Half!Jun 20, 2011
By P. To "PTo"
This is a great and well priced product. When I start feeling the onset of a cold, I just pop one of this and I am normally able to recover in half a day or so. It also doesn't give me upset stomach since it's buffered.

** Make Sure You Are Getting the C-1000 Complex, and not the C-1000 **

The Amazon listing titles for these two products are somewhat confusing. The NOW C-1000 COMPLEX cost a couple dollars more but is buffered - i.e. less likely to cause stomach problem.

Here's the description from NOW's web site about the "Buffer" feature: "Calcium Ascorbate is not acidic and will not contribute to excess stomach acidity or irritation in sensitive persons. Calcium Ascorbate is synthesized from a combination of Ascorbic Acid and Calcium Carbonate to form Calcium Ascorbate."

Also, some people would buy this, and then cut it in half, thinking that it's a better deal to buy the 1000mg pills. However, this will reduce or nullify the effect of the "sustain release". Moreover, there is no guarantee that the ingredients are equally divided between the two halfs. Unless the manufacturer put a "cut line" in the middle of the pill, it's a pretty good bet that the pill is not intended to be cut in half because the ingredients are probably not equally distributed within the one pill.

For comparison shopping, since Amazon doesn't list the content, here is the Supplement Info for the C-1000 COMPLEX:

Serving Size: 1 Capsule
Amount Per Serving:
Vitamin C (from Calcium Ascorbate) 1.0 g (1,000 mg) 1667%
Calcium (from Calcium Ascorbate) 110 mg 11%
Citrus Bioflavonoids (37% total bioflavonoids as Hesperidin) 500 mg
Acerola 50 mg
Rutin 50 mg

Other Ingredients: Calcium Phosphate, Cellulose, Stearic Acid (vegetable source), Croscarmellose Sodium, Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source), Silica and Vegetable Coating.
