Pioneer brand Childrens "Cal Mag and D" contains 200iu of vitamin D3, 250mg of calcium, and 85 mg of magnesium from oxide and citrate (2:1). If you are looking for magneium from glycinate, you might want to try the Kirkman Labs brand, which contains a large dose of B6, but no calcium or D.

The Pioneer brand contains xylitol and malitol as well as stevia for flavoring. I like the taste, and my 2-year old takes it with no hesitation. The Kirkman brand is "tropical punch" flavored, and contains dextrose as a sweetener.

The Kirkman brand only contains 25mg of magnesium, but contains 50mg (a lot) of B-6. If your child is autistic, you might prefer the Kirkman brand unless your child gets some other high-dose supplement of B6.

If you are comparing prices, by the way, always check the labels. The jar of 90 looks just like the jar of 120.

This is easily digested but it is like trying to eat dry cocoa. Pleasant taste but very dry.

5I'm a believer after using this for several monthsOct 30, 2011
By R. Burnette
I had suffered from nocturnal leg cramps for months, primarily in my bicep muscle (behind the thigh). These cramps were incredibly intense and disruptive, and sometimes recurred several times in a night. I began taking this supplement after doing some research and had not had a single recurrence until a few nights ago (when I had forgotten to take it for about a week). The only other significant modification I made was drinking a glass of water every night before retiring, so it is not entirely possible to attribute the success to this supplement alone, although I feel it is a major factor.

Because the dose is 4 chalky pills per day, this is only a 22 day supply!! I thought it was a 90 (or at least 45) day supply, but as it is it's far too expensive. Also, I cannot breathe in while chewing them, or I feel like I'm choking on cocoa powder. Very, very, very dry. Taste is fine, and based on my research the quality/balance also seems fine. But come on, four per day?

5My Favorite Cal/Mag Product!Sep 26, 2011

In addition to the wonderful dark cocoa taste (which results in me looking forward to my dosages!) it seems so far to be a good supplemental product too. If you take the full 4 tablets per day you will get 100% recommended dosage of calcium for women up to age 50 (1000 mg) and 125% recommended for magnesium (500 mg). Even though the magnesium is a little high it's still within what is considered to be a safe amount. I have been taking it for almost a year now with no side effects. If you are over 50 (as I am,) and have any calcium in your diet, this supplement should be sufficient even though it is less than the 1200 mg recommended for women over 50. I don't always take the full 4 tablets -- I adjust the amount depending on what calcium-containing foods I eat that day (the advantage of spreading the dosages out throughout the day).

One thing to note is that it is 2:1 Calcium Carbonate/Calcium Citrate and 2:1 Magnesium Oxide/Magnesium Citrate. I mention this because many people feel strongly about one over the other. I personally have no personal preference but I know that others do and might want to know this.

I haven't had another bone density scan since starting on the Pioneer tablets, so I don't know the effect it has had on my bones, but my formerly paper-thin fingernails have become much stronger. My nails had been extremely weak and brittle my entire life. But since I've been taking this supplement they've grown much stronger and now I have to cut them on a regular basis so they don't get too long! That has NEVER happened with me before. And this is without changing anything in my diet. I'll edit my post and add a note once I have my next bone scan and see if there's been a difference in that area too.
