It's tastes good! Easier to kids to take than other & Natural!Jan 19, 2010

I wanted to find a couph medicine that tasted better than store bought ones. I had not tried this one before but had used the other pill forms of other products/items by same maker and they worked well. This product worked easily in that there was no fighting to get my 4 year old to take it - he actually is starting to pretend he's sick to get some (but we're on to him!) It lasts an about two hours or so and since it doesn't have the "scary" ingredients of regular products, giving him a second dose every 4 hours is fine and I feel comfortable with it. Just having the hassle of him NOT running away from couph syrup makes this worth it, but it does give relief for awhile. I tasted it and liked it too. Recommend it for those who want to use a more natural way of helping kids cope with couphs, especially if they do not like the tastes of what the pharmacy over the counter has. I love Hylands!

I have 2 young boys and a childcare, so coughs happen several times a year in our home. However, they always disipate quickly thanks to this Hyland's Cold 'n' Cough, which we've used for the past 3 years. Honey has always been touted as a wonderful soother for sore throats and coughs, and that's probably its most effective ingredient. However, we've tried other natural cough syrups and this is our favorite because it also helps with cold symptoms (Chestal is a very close second). It's incredibly effective and works quickly; our kids recover completely in less than 2 days after we give them this Hyland's. They've never complained about it but actually ask for it when they have a cough or runny nose! Even my childcare families allow me to give it to their children when they have coughs; their children recover quickly, too. On the 2 occasions when I gave our son cough syrup during his bronchitis bout (almost 4 years ago), it never seemed to work and I felt guilty giving it to him. I don't get sick often, so I can't attest to my own personal experience, but my husband said it soothes his sore throats, too. If you want an effective, natural, and reasonably-priced cough syrup, look no further than this!
Just an FYI that this is MUCH better than the Cough Syrup with Honey, both by Hyland's. We have tried them both and the nights I give our boys this one, they sleep through the night without coughing. When I give them the regular Hyland's Cough Syrup with Honey, they go about 3-4 hours without coughing. That's still better than regular toxic cough syrup, but just thought I'd point out the slight difference. Plus, you get the cold relief on top of the cough syrup, without ANY side effects except healthy kids!

My 2 year old recently caught a bit of a nasty cold. He has a scratchy, sore throat, a nasty cough, a runny nose, pretty much everything this product is claims to alleviate. I was highly skeptical. I usually am of homeopathic remedies because I have tried them in the past (everything from remedies for myself to remedies for pets) and they usually didn't work very well, if at all. But I needed to do SOMETHING for my kiddo! So after researching this product online, I found NO complaints about it at all! Even adults praised it for THEIR use! I also found that it has not been shown to interact with acetaminophen or ibuprofen, which is great because we had a bit of a fever to deal with for a day or two. So I went out and bought a bottle. I gave my son the dosage for his age (5 ml) and waited. I swear within less than 30 minutes he was great! His cough was almost gone an his nose cleared right up! He still had a scratchy throat of course but at least it wasn't sore! I also liked the fact that the product is CLEAR (no nasty dyes!) and does NOT expire! So we can hang on to it for the next time my son gets a cold. I might even try it for myself if I get sick!

By melodylee1313 I am amazed at how well this works. Both my 3 year old and I had a persistent cold, I took adult cough syrup but this was all I could find that was safe for his age. It quieted his cough, soothed his sore throat and made his red, crusty eyes normal again. I was using toddler's ibuprofen which worked for his fever, but not the other symptoms. I also selected this because I used Hyland's teething tablets when he was a baby and they were a life saver.

The simplest definition of Homeopathy that I know of is this: "Therapy using plant, animal and/or mineral substances in dilutions to overcome illness by stimulating the body's natural immunity." While it sounds very nice, homeopathy can be confusing and very much a trial and error process (not every body reacts the same to the same set of plant, animal or mineral substances). Both I and my 16 month old have tried the Hylands Cold 'n Cough 4 Kids and while it clearly is doing something (we are getting some relief) I wouldn't say its the be all and end all of cold remedies. My view is that the ingredients are reasonably safe (provided you or your child aren't on any prescription medications that may interact negatively with the ingredients of Cold 'n Cough 4 Kids and of course you need to monitor your child closely to make sure they don't have an allergic reaction), but should be used in conjunction with vitamins and minerals like Zinc, Vitamin C and B and other well known remedies like chicken soup, camomile tea with honey and lemon and oranges (extra, fresh vitamin c) to obtain the desired effect or best outcome.
I like this product and will continue to purchase and consume it, but I wanted to make some parents aware that homeopathy isn't a "cure", can be just as unsafe in some instances as chemical medications and doesn't always work as well as over the counter meds do for 'suppressing/masking' cold symptoms. It definitely seems like (to me) the safer option and provides some relief, but really should be paired with other natural cold remedies to be the most effective.
