Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid and functions as an important component of brain tissue. High concentrations of DHA are found in the cerebral cortex of the brain. DHA has been found to play a significant role in cerebral development throughout the life cycle, especially during fetal development and infancy. It is especially important for women and their offspring during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Great plant-based omega-3 supplementApr 20, 2009
By Michael Schumacher I found these while looking for a non-fish omega-3 DHA supplement. I believe this is the same DHA you'll find in any Martek or Life's DHA product, and that they all are from the same company.
The benefits of supplementing a diet with fish oil come from the omega-3 fatty acid, DHA. Traditional fish oil capsules contain less than 100 mg of DHA per 1 gram of oil. This product contains 200 mg of DHA per capsule from a vegetarian plant-based source, algae.
I take 2 capsules in the morning. They're small and round, so they go down without a problem. If not eaten with food, a hint of seaweed can be tasted after several minutes.
These are better than fish capsules if you're a vegetarian, but (as with almost all softgels) the capsules are made from gelatin (a non-veg ingredient).
I recommend these, they're a little pricey, but a bottle will last 2 months when taking 2 capsules per day.

Been using DHA for 10 years nowMar 30, 2010
By JaxRox

In my mid to late 40s I started having memory loss... like going to another room to get something and completely forgetting what it was. I figured it was a hopeless aging thing that I would have to accept as part of getting hold and losing my female hormones. Then I learned about Neuromins (Martak Labs) DHA derived from algae and started taking it every day. In a short time my eyes were able to tolerate bright sunlight for the first time in my life. Then I noticed I no longer forgot things anymore. This stuff is amazing - it is now 10 years later and I amaze myself with how much I can remember, I often times do not even bother to write lists sometimes and can still remember. I've had episodes were I wanted to remember something and 20 - 30 minutes later the answer would pop into my brain. I've had episodes were I was driving by a store thinking of something totally unrelated and my brain (memory) gave me a pop-up as I was getting near the store to turn in a buy some item I thought about 4 days earlier. DHA keeps your brain's memory file folder active and well connected and organized and does these amazing information searches if you let it. I do not smoke, drink alcohol and avoid sugars, carbs and processed foods.

DHA from algaeNov 12, 2009
By Bette A. Conrad DHA from algae was recommended by Dr. Michael Roizen from the Cleveland Clinic - co-author of the "You ..." health book series. He and his colleague said it was great for many purposes, especially brain power and mental/brain health. I have been taking 600 mgs/day for about 5 months (1 capsule, 3 x/day). I have found that my mind is clearer, even when tired; and my memory is better, even when tired. Source Naturals is one of the few companies which make DHA from algae and I am quite pleased with it. Source Naturals has always been rated highly for content quality control; from various nutritionists and naturapaths whom I have consulted; so I trust this brand.

Rare Algal Oil DHA best for Prenatal NutritionFeb 21, 2007
By Melanie I bought this as a prenatal supplement. I wanted a 200mg dose because that's what is recommended and I didn't want to take multiple pills each day. I also chose Neuromins because it's derived from algal oil rather than fish oils. They seem expensive, but aren't when compared to similar products (OptiNate, Promise, etc). I have not tried other products, but I'm only giving this product 3 stars because the round capsule does not go down smoothly and I have algae burps if I take the pill during the day and some queasiness if I take it at night.

good DHASep 22, 2009
By babywilson I investigated DHA before I purchased this DHA for my son.Since it is the trademark under Martek company,I trust its quality.I asked Martek company to check if this product is the same thing like Martek's life DHA.I got reply that the capsules are the same thing and they just trademark different brand name.So I will continue to purchase this in the future. In August, amazon had promotion on this product.I am glad that I get a good discount on it.Thank you amazon.
