5I love Light Mountain HennaFeb 08, 2008
By Sybilicious
I have been using Light Mountain Henna for years. It is messy, and can be a hassle to use, but the results on my hair are unbelievably great. I have very thick, coarse, dry hair and my hair soaks up the color like a sponge. It does not fade at all on me, and the conditioning effect lasts about 6 weeks on my hair. I boil filtered water, add 2 tea bags, steep the tea- take the bags out, then add the henna powder. I eyeball it, adding just enough powder to make a runny mud-like consistency- stir it up until all the dry powder is gone- then gloop it on to my dry hair. I wrap plastic around my hair, then let it soak in for a couple of hours. Then, I shower, wash with shampoo twice, and condition afterward. Lovely!! I couldn't live without my henna.

2Not my favoriteOct 06, 2007

This is not my favorite hair coloring product. It's extrememly messy, takes forever to rinse the glop out, and it leaves your hair dull looking and feeling like straw. Also, for me, the color change was far too subtle, even after an hour. There is, however, a LOT of product for the money--you could easily do two applications from one box for long hair or more for short hair. If you want safe, SUBTLE color/highlights, this might be your thing. Just use a conditioner, especially one that gives shine to the hair. (See my review for the red shade)

4not very effectiveSep 16, 2007

I would much rather use a purely natural product like this over chemical based ones, but it wasn't very effective. I have light brown hair and was hoping this would add more warmth to it than it did. Maybe I was just being too cautious in my color choice. I followed the directions exactly and did 3 strand tests. With the 3rd strand test, I added ginger and cayenne because the other 2 tests resulted in no difference at all. I left the product on for an hour, randomly applying heat with a hair dryer. In the end, it added only minimal warmth, which could have been from the cayenne, and that quickly faded. I am not saying this is a bad product, but that if your hair color is similar to the color you choose, perhaps consider choosing the next shade up.

3OK henna dyeJul 19, 2011
By MuchaKoda
I've used this particular henna color (auburn) for about 2 years now. I need to use it about every 6-8 weeks due to fading/unevenness. The product is easy enough to use, although can be quite messy. Basically like applying mud on your hair. Rinsing takes about 15-20 min to get the thick dye out and to get clear water to run through. I add a little bit of natural spices to make it a lighter or darker color that I want at the time (such as paprika, turmeric, ginger, coffee, etc), and also I add one or two eggs for extra conditioning. I add boiling water to the mix, blend well, and let it steep for about 2 hrs covered from light with a towel in a glass bowl. After that I blend it well again, adding a bit more hot water, since it gets a bit firm from steeping, and then I apply to my clean damp towel-dried hair and let sit for about 2 hrs - I pull my hair back with a plastic clip and then cover with a basic disposable shower cap for those two hours. I hear sometimes people apply to dry hair - maybe I'll try that next time. Usually the results are good & very vibrant. But after using for this long, I find my hair is not as soft as it used to be, it's drying it out I think. Covers my spots of grey at first, but the grey seems to show again within about 3-4 weeks. The smell of the dye definitely stays for a bit tho - usually about a week or more even with washing & conditioning every single day. Smells somewhat like grass or herbs, not horrible, but I notice it as does my husband. Thinking about trying Naturtint dye in the 7N color, to get closer to my natural shade. But I'm somewhat scared to use it over the henna, since I've done research on it, and some people get bad results when switching to a new hair dye after using henna. Will see. For me, the henna doesn't ever completely wash out over time, so its pretty permanent (I have wavy, thinner, medium length hair). There are supposed to be higher quality henna dyes out there - I just got this one because my local natural food mart always has it in stock.

5Good ProductJan 28, 2011

After the Hennalucent product I had used for 20+ yrs was discontinued, I was very upset. After much research, I picked Lt Mtn Henna in Auburn and it appears to be an excellent match for me. Great conditioner.
