Best henna product out there!Aug 01, 2007

Light Mountain is the ONLY company I will buy henna for hair from! The product is all natural, and easy to use. Just add hot water (Warning: Do not use regular tap water or metal of any kind when mixing/using product because the natural henna has a chemical reaction which could change the color intended!) FYI: I have done it two ways: Followed directions flawlessly and used tap water vs distilled; didn't notice any major differance in color outcome. However, I have NEVER used any metal in preperation & use of product! (I KNOW there would be a reaction!) Anyway, I do HIGHLY advise using the plastic gloves that come with the henna or some of better quality if handy because the henna stays on the skin for days! Overall: Light Mountain Red is really Red! Not a bright Red/Red, but more of a naturally Shiny Orange(hence the Fox on the box)/Red. It is the more desirable color of Red I think. We left the henna on for 30 minutes one time and it came out REALLY Foxy Red! My daughter thought we should tone it down a little the next time, so we left it on for 15 minutes the next time,(starting after it was all applied to hair & bagged) and liked the results a lot better. FYI: She has long virgin hair that hasn't been chemically dyed. OVERALL: Light Mountain Henna is the BEST! It is simple to use/apply (like playing in mud!)and the outcome is fabulous! The color gradually fades over many weeks, but we love the results so much that we get to a certain point and then "henna-up" again! Oh...I forgot to mention that using henna is GREAT for the hair! It accually coats the hair shaft making it healthier and stronger! It's actually good for your hair!

Excellent replacement of Hennalucent Sunset Glow!Jun 09, 2009
By Reader from Texas

Recently, all Hennalucent Sunset Glo color users were lost as this beloved color was discontinued. The frantic search has begun to find a replacement! And I am happy to announce that this Light Mountain Natural Hair Color in RED is a perfect alternative to Hennalucent Sunset Glo. The package has twice as much henna as hennalucent and it is good for all of us with long hair, it is soft, easy paste to apply, good smell. Please read all instructions. After 45 minutes the desired color is achieved, but for thicker hair they recommend up to 3 hours wait. They also advice heat application but I have not done it and the results are excellent. Wear gloves, cover the hair line with Vaseline to avoid staining. It washes out easily, wait 24 hours before shampooing to make the color last even longer.
Well, I am thrilled I can continue to be a redhead with no harsh chemicals on my hair. Thank you Mountain Natural Hair Color in RED!

Natural and RED: great stuff and tips...Sep 19, 2009
By Siren

I have used several colors of Light Mountain henna over the years and just today used the Red. This stuff is so great, I love that it's natural and it does have staying power. I thought that I'd post some tips from research and experience for those who may be using for the first time or who are considering this product. Henna is really a wonderful choice; that cannot be denied. It does take some patience and can be messy if you aren't prepared, but the preparation is so worth the result! I mix it with boiled distilled water and this time I added the juice from 1/2 a lemon. I allowed this to cure overnight in the fridge. This really makes a different in the potency of the henna and you must use gloves whenever you touch it because your hands will be stained orange! That said, the kit comes with gloves so just be sure to use them. I also have used a color application bottle and this does make control a little easier, but my hair is very long so I usually end up just slopping it on with my hands. The applicator bottle is good to get close to the roots and face though. Today I left the henna on my hair for about 1 1/2 hours, though I usually leave it on longer. After applying the henna, I wrapped my hair in cling film, which is really superior to using a plastic shower cap, which I always used to use. On top of that, I wrapped a towel and I kept heating my head with a hairdryer every 15 minutes or so. When rinsing, henna can be stubborn, as it's gritty and thick. It helps to mix some conditioner with it as you rinse. Once it's rinsed out, put on another application of conditioner and rinse lightly with cold water. This will leave your hair so soft and shiny and will help seal in the color. It also helps with the grassy smell that you will carry with you for a few days! I highly recommend this product. It's good for your hair, and much better for the environment, seeing as how it does rinse down the drain out into the ocean! I'd much rather be sending plant matter down the drain than man made chemical dyes, wouldn't you?

awesomeFeb 01, 2011
By bgranitz After reading about the dangers of chemical hair dyes and realizing that some of the cancers that are attached to those chemicals have run in my family, I decided to not risk my health when it was unnecessary. I began researching natural alternatives to dying my hair dark and kept running into henna. I was very, very, very apprehensive about using the henna. Since my hair as a tendency to turn bronze with other hair dyes (since it has a naturally red tint) I was terrified that my hair would come out red. I found the light mountain dark brown henna and thought it would be a good time to give it a try. I did a lot of research about using henna and learned a few tricks. I did add coffee and egg to mine to keep the darker tones and for the moisturizing benefits the egg offers. I followed the instructions that came with the box and let it cure for 3 hrs. I did start to do a strand test and just got impatient and went for it anyway. I left the henna on for 3 hours and didn't use heat since I read that could increase the red tones in your hair. My hair came out a beautiful rich brown and feels very soft. I love it! The only negatives about the henna (but they are worth it) are that you are left with the henna smell, it is time consuming if you do it properly, and it takes a bit of work to get out of your hair. I don't think I'll go back to chemical dyes. Trust me, it's worth your time.

Poorly sifted powder (twigs + chunks) and has gone stale.Jun 02, 2010
By J. Blair I have used many hennas, but this brand is handily the worst I've used. If you're unhappy with this stuff, DON'T BLAME HENNA, blame this manufacturer. Then order some Body Art Quality henna and try again -- you'll be much much much happier, I promise! "BAQ" henna is the stuff used on Indian and Mid-eastern brides for intricate skin painting, so it's super-finely sifted and has the best dye content available. Plus, it's less expensive than this junk!!
1. The makers didn't sift out all the small twigs and chunks of the ground leaves, so it feels gritty. makes extra mess and difficulty in the application, and takes FOREVER to wash out. (My body-art-quality henna takes 1 shampoo, this stuff takes 4-5).
2. There is no "use-by" or "packaged-when" date, so you are very likely getting old stale henna. This would explain the pitiful dye release I've experienced with 2 boxes of this stuff.
3. Colors that contain any Indigo (anything darker than their copper color) are even harder to apply and rinse out. Their indigo supply is even shoddier than their henna!
4. The mixing instructions don't allow enough time for this low-quality henna to begin releasing dye. This is OK if you are using JUST henna or henna/cassia (straberry colored) and you leave the paste on for 2-5 hours, but if there is any indigo in your box, it makes the box worthless. Mixed with hot water, this henna needs 40-60 minutes to release ample color in the paste, and by then the indigo is nearly dead. (Indigo needs to be applied within an hour or its dye "dies").
5. The gloves are complete poo and the price is way too high for the quality.
