I am not going to write a lot about what L-Carnitine does to me because people react differently to dietary supplements. Speaking for myself only, I do seem to respond to taking on tablespoon prior to my near-daily few miles run on the treadmill. For the 'science' there is good Wikipedia article discussing its positive effects as an antioxidant, on weight loss, aging, diabetes, heart, kidneys and so forth. WebMD states that "L-carnitine helps the body produce energy. It is important for heart and brain function, muscle movement and many other body processes."
It's probably worth mentioning that the product does not contain a number of ingredients we can all do without. There is no sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg, shellfish, or artificial colors/flavors and the makers claim that it qualifies as a vegetarian/vegan product.
On the positive side, besides the 3000 mg of L-Carnitine (Carnipure), each serving (tablespoon) contains over 800% of one's daily needs of vitamin B-12 and 250% of B-5. The sweet taste comes from Stevia and the orange flavor is natural.
A few weeks of use show no negative side effects. The product goes down easy, tastes great and running feels good after taking it. I will reorder when I'm done with this bottle.

Liquid calorie burner in a bottle!Aug 26, 2008
By Felisha D. Mason I have researched and read multiple articles about the benefits of taking L-Carnitine prior to a workout. You experience a bigger calorie burn when you take it prior and this an excellent product because in its liquid form will work immediately and you do not have to take it 30 minutes before your workout like a pill form. I take a Tbs prior to every workout and have noticed an increased weight loss and increased calorie burn. The most recent study was published in Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine in the July edition, check it out if you get a chance, it also encourages stacking this with caffeine anhydrous for a higher fat burning duo.

By Derek I notice some energy boost but was told that it would speed up the metabolism more while dieting and working out. Didn't notice any huge difference but I think it had something to do with my 25 lbs lost. But still recommend dieting and exercise while taking it.

By C. R. Miske If you take the recommended dose twice a day you'll want the 32 oz. size. I feel like the liquid is more easily absorbed than pills, like the taste and price of the NOW product, and have used it frequently in losing the 40 lb I've lost so far.

Stuff works for meOct 31, 2010
By M. Moore L-carnitine really helps me burn fat, and this is a great tasting way to get it in liquid form. I've noticed a real difference since I've been using it before workouts and before meals -- people comment I'm really leaning out and I credit this stuff, in significant part. (L-Carn has to be part of a low fat diet program that you're regimented about)
The only bummer can be that L-Carn can sometimes be a bit messy-- in liquid form it seems hard to contain, and I've had a couple of bottles of the stuff arrive from Amazon looking like they're leaking. This is the reason I dinged the product by a star.
