Finally!Apr 22, 2011
By alessandrina Organics Hair Care Shampoo Coconut 8 fl.oz
I have REALLY long, wavy hair. The ends tend to get dry and frizzy, but I'm pretty active, so I need to wash my scalp frequently. While, I've only been using natural hair care products, A LOT of those "natural" products still contain emulsifying waxes and silicones. They also never seemed to really clean my scalp thoroughly. So, my scalp would soon feel like it needed to be washed again, while the wax and silicone was making my ends even drier :-(
I would see Desert Essences in Whole Foods all the time, but thought it seemed pricey for only 8oz, so I kept steering toward the "better values". Frustrated with inferior shampoos and fragrances I didn't like, I finally took a chance on Desert Essence Organics (Coconut)!
+1: Desert Essence Organics contains NO silicones(or waxes from what I see), parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates, phthalates, petroleum...) - HUGE plus for them, even before I used it.
+2: It's Vegan, Wheat & Gluten Free
+3: It smells great. I also happen to LOVE coconut though.
+4: Although it did seem pricey for 8oz, I found that I use WAY less than I've ever used of any other shampoo. As I mentioned, I have really long hair (down to my waist). The consistency is a little runnier than some shampoos (it almost runs out of the bottle by itself - definitely don't squeeze hard), so I was initially worried that I'd go through the bottle in no time. I actually needed very little. It would take the same time or longer than some other shampoos for me to finish this bottle.
+5: It cleans my scalp wonderfully! Dare I say, it was actually squeaky clean. Even the next day, after a sweaty yoga class, I didn't feel gross. It also didn't dry out my ends; however, I should note that I don't usually put shampoo directly on my hair/ends - I usually massage it into the scalp and let the "run down" clean my hair. I also condition every day and use coconut oil, but at least there are no waxes and silicones blocking moisture from being absorbed. Yay!
I love this stuff! SO glad I tried it!

I bought this for my granddaughter's oily hair. She didn't like shampooing everyday. This shampoo reduced the necessity to twice a week. Very nice and a large tube at that. It is concentrated so a little goes a long way. 2 shampoos are necessary.

You have to love Desert EssenceAug 02, 2008
By Binky Geez, no reviews. OK, I'll do it. I'm biased, I really like Desert Essence products. I religiously use their facial cleaner with tea tree oil. This shampoo has a very strong, natural lemon scent to it. If you like citrus, you'll love the smell. My hair tends to get on the oily side, and the lemon and the tea tree combination gives it an an almost squeaky clean feel that I love.
I finished my bottle and came to Amazon looking to order more. Do some Googling if you need more specifics on the ingredients for allergies.

What's not to love?!Aug 31, 2011
By Whoozakat I recently purchased the Desert Essence Coconut Body Wash, Coconut Shampoo and Coconut Conditioner on Amazon.com. My husband and I have used other Desert Essence products before and loved them (Tea Tree Blemish Stick- amazing on insect bites and Tea Tree Deodorant which works as well as any deodorant/anti-perspirant with loads of nasty chemicals in it) We have been big fans of coconut-smelling products for a while but I have often shied away, as a lot of them smell very sickly sweet. No one wants to end up smelling like a cupcake or a pina colada! Not so with these! We love love love all three and the smell is subtle and not sweet or overpowering. I have long hair and wash it nearly every day (terrible I know) and the shampoo and conditioner keeps my mane glossy and hydrated. I get little hints of coconut now and then throughout the day but I like that- I live in NYC and having clean smelling hair by the end of the day can be tricky. The body wash has a nice consistency and my husband loves using it. He works on construction sites in all weathers and it doesn't irritate or dry out his skin.
Nice packaging- you absolutely get your money's worth with 8fl oz. and as I said, we use them nearly every day and a little goes a long way. When I purchased all three they each had a slightly different label so there as been no confusion during those early morning, bleary-eyed showers!
The MASSIVE plus for me with these products is that in addition to using sustainable, organic ingredients, neither the finished product NOR the raw ingredients are tested on animals or contain animal by-products. They are vegan. They are also gluten free and have no nasties (phosphates etc) in them. Plus it is a small American company...let's support them!
Highly Recommended.

Nice scent but not working as advertised.Oct 12, 2011
By TougeFreak This shampoo smells good but I don't think it does a good job in preventing oily hair, as a matter of fact I find myself need twice the dose to remove the oil from my hair than the shampoo I used to have. Also my hair gets oily quicker than before. I don't recommend this product at all.
