This is vegan, there's no soy in it, and it's only 129 cals for 22g of protein. I mix this with vanilla almond milk, but my husband just mixes it with water. It doesn't taste gross, it just tastes vanilla-ish, even if you're licking the powder off your finger. Drink it quickly, because if you let it sit too long, the chia seeds get gelatinous. This is supposed to be an incredibly healthy mix, and it's a good price. Now if I only I would use it regularly, haha. I think I'll try taking it everyday when I start exercising again. Here's some info I found on various sites online:

"Hempseed is considered by leading researchers and medical doctors to be one of the most nutritious food sources on the planet. Shelled hempseed is packed with 33 percent pure digestible protein and is rich in iron and vitamin E as well as omega-3 and GLA. A recent report funded by the Canadian government states that hemp protein is comprised of 66 percent high-quality edistin protein, and that hempseed contains the highest percentage of this of any plant source. Hemp also contains three times the vitamin E contained in flax. Unlike soy, hemp is not genetically modified, and it doesn't contain the anti-nutritional qualities commonly found in soy.
Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary for muscle repair and hypertrophy. There is no other single plant source that has all the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, the enzymes, the bacteria and the essential fatty acids in such a perfect ratio to meet athlete's nutritional needs.

If you try mixing a spoonful of Chia in a glass of water and leaving it for approximately 30 minutes or so, when you return the glass will appear to contain not seeds or water, but an almost solid gelatin. Chia seeds are the definitive hydrophilic colloid for the 21 century diet. Hydrophilic colloids, (a watery, gelatinous, glue-like substance) form the underlying elements of all living cells. They posses the property of readily taking up and giving off the substances essential to cell life. The precipitation of the hydrophilic colloids cause cell death.
The food we eat, in the raw state, consist largely of hydrophilic colloids. When cooked on the other had, precipitates its colloidal integrity. This change in the colloidal state alters the hydration capacity of our foods so as to interfere with their ability to absorb digestive juices. I have just begun a Vegan lifestyle and wanted to include something in my diet besides quioa with a good protein balance. I have read some good things lately about chia seeds and I believe the review before mine includes some really good information on all the "Good" things in this suppliment. So, I'll stick with the taste. I got the vanilla flavor and it tastes really good on it's own. Before I was Vegan, I had a smoothie for breakfast. Now, I can again. Almond milk, a banana and this protein supplement with ice in the blender. It has a smooth texture and great flavor. Sometimes I add a bit of cocoa powder and sweetener when I want a bit of a change. Try it. I think you will really like it.

Very disappointed. After much searching for a healthy protein powder shake mix, I chose this based on the reviews. A vegan, all natural shake mix... hooray. Get it home and taste it and what is that horrible fake sweetner taste... look at the ingredients and what have we here? Xylitol and stevia... so bizarre! why not just stevia? Xylitol is one artificial sweetner I can't stomach... it gives me a nausea from hell... I even get it from mouthwash that you don't even swallow! I hate how Amazon puts ingredients on some products and not others. It's my fault for not checking harder and assuming something "vegan" and seemingly innocent wouldn't contain Xylitol...

I found out I was alergic to gluten, soy, dairy and eggs. Being a vegetarian, this knocked out the majority of my diet. I needed a good non dairy / soy protein source.

This one was actually better tasting than the whey powder I used before. I mixed a scoop with 1 banana, a splenda and almond milk in my bullet. It was like a rich vanilla shake with a hint of banana flavor. It was so good that both my hubby and son asked for one and we now all drink one a day. They are NOT vegetarians and my hubby is a southern meat and potatoes guy who shakes his head at just about everything I eat. It is really saying something for him to like it so much. We all have one of these for lunch everyday now. My only complaint is that they don't sell bigger containers, as we are really going through these!

This was my first time trying Life's Basics Plant Protein. I was afraid to stray from my tried & true protein powder, but I was looking for something that contained healthier ingredients. Thanks to someone who posted a prior in-depth review, which explained some of the ingredients, I thought I would try it out. I tried the chocolate first and thought it tasted great. Then I ordered the vanilla and I was hooked! Yes, you need to experiment with protein powders to find the best taste for yourself, believe me, I have done a lot of experimenting with protein powders in my time. I'll tell you how I tried out these powders and it works for me, in fact, I actually crave my protein shake now! How great is that! I didn't want to give up my morning coffee, plus I make coffee for my hubby. So, I use the vanilla flavor, after my workout in the morning(fill a large glass or shaker with a few cubes of ice-about 1/2, pour about 1/2 of the coffee in the glass-it will melt some of the ice, add some fat free french vanilla creamer-to taste, pour in some fat free milk, add a bit more water and a scoop of vanilla protein powder, mix, add more ice if needed, to make it taste super chilled. It tastes like a yummy french vanilla frappe! At night, I crave a sweet snack, so I put a few ice cubes in a blender, pour in about 1/2 of fat free milk, 1/2 of water, two scoops of fat free chocolate frozen yogurt and a scoop of the chocolate protein powder, blend well. It makes a yummy chocolate milkshake! add more or less ice depending on if you like it more as a shake or more like a drink. Sometimes I will add a scoop of fat free cool whip to either of these 2 mixes and once in a while, a scoop of peanut butter to the chocolate shake, but that is up to your individual taste. Don't be afraid to try different ways to mix it up. These are the 2 ways that work wonders for me. I just wanted to post a couple of ideas, since I didn't know how to start using protein powder, when I first started and it helps to get ideas from others. Enjoy!
