5Better Than B5 Design GelNov 21, 2010
By L.L.
For months Aubrey Organics - B5 Design Gel, 8 fl oz gel was the only gel I used. Then I realized two things: 1) for my hair with its delicate curl pattern and low-maintenance styling (really non-styling), I needed something with a slightly lighter hold and 2) as my hair got longer the B5 Design Gel was starting to dry out my ends just a bit. So I tried AO's Ginkgo Leaf & Ginseng Root Hair Moisturizing Jelly and found that for my needs, it works better than B5 Design Gel.

This gel has a lighter hold than the B5 Design Gel. It lightly coats the hair to reduce frizz and control curls. It is less effective at holding hair in place - I still think B5 Design Gel is best for that job. Unlike B5, this gel doesn't dry out my hair, particularly when I put a good leave in conditioner under it such as Aubrey Organics - Calaguala Fern Hair Thick/Conditioner, 4 fl oz liquid.

The citrus scent is strong while in the bottle and on wet hair but dissipates after the hair has dried. The gel absorbs very nicely into the hair without leaving it stiff.

I still use B5 Design Gel if I need a bit more hold, or on the frizzy parts up front when I'm pulling my hair into a neat ponytail or bun. But now I use this Moisturizing Jelly on the length of my hair after most every wash. The results are excellent.

4Works nice as a 'finishing' gelJul 15, 2010
By A. Schulz
I now use this as a 'finishing' gel to add a little extra hold. A little goes a LONG way. It only works for me when I put it on over a leave-in which is fine w/ me because I live in a dry climate and need one anyway. I have 2c hair (thick, full, with lots of curl/waves). I really like that it is not laden w/ chemicals. The smell is pleasant as well.

3Good for Kinky/Curly HairSep 08, 2009
By Marquita Griffin "ItVeganAtGenesis"
I recommend this product for the use of a light curl definition and shine, but it is not very moisturizing. It didn't make my kinky curls pop either like Giovanni LA Styling Gel does. Dispite the description on the bottle it does flake lightly after a few hours after it dries (so don't touch), but it's not very noticable. I don't like the weat look on my length of hair, but on shorter hair or if that's what you're looking for this is the product for you. It does have a nice clean smell and good slip so you don't need a lot.

5one of the best gels for curly hairApr 13, 2009
By Heather O. Cain
This is one of the best gels for curly hair; it adds body, bounce and shine without any plastics, parabens or silicones.

5Great hold, not stickyNov 29, 2008
By Shayna Grove
I really like the Mandarin Magic Hair Gel. First of all, I have thick, curly hair. I live in a very windy area, and so just walking out the door causes my hair to frizz. I wanted something that wasn't sticky, wasn't stiff, and could still keep the frizz at bay. This product does all three. I was nervous because I haven't used a gel in years, but this gel is very light and my hair dries smooth not sticky. I also like that the product is made from organic ingredients: much better than the old stuff I was putting in my hair. What I've learned since using the product: You don't need to use a lot. My old product I used 3 full palmfuls. This stuff I can use a couple quarter size dollops. Also, the scent is very strong when you first open the bottle, but mellows once it dries. Personally, I don't think smelling like oranges is bad.
