NOW® Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) contains PectaSol®, a patented, low molecular weight citrus pectin that can pass through the intestinal barrier so it can work systemically. MCP can bind to and facilitate excretion of low levels of heavy metals that commonly come from mild environmental exposure. A recent study indicates that modified citrus pectin promotes healthy urinary excretion of common, mild environmental exposures of heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead and tin without altering excretion of other nutritional minerals, including calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and selenium. In addition, MCP has been shown to support healthy cellular growth and reproduction.* Nutrition Info

Contains 100% Pectasol-CJul 28, 2011
By Mirabella Like another reviewer here, I wondered if NOW brand MCP powder is Pectasol. By the way, Euconugenics, the mfr and patent-holder of Pectasol, has now renamed it "Pectasol-C" to distinguish the new, improved, more absorbable form of their MCP. I spoke with a NOW nutritionist and also a NOW customer service rep on the phone, both of whom were helpful and informed. They assured me that NOW MCP is 100% Pectasol-C. As a distributor they are not allowed to call their product "Pectasol-C", but it is indeed that. On their label it is simply called Modified Citrus Pectin. Further verification is the patent# which IS printed on the NOW label and is the exact patent# given to Pectasol-C. (I just happened to notice that detail myself.) I also emailed Econugenics to ask if Pectasol-C is what NOW sells as "MCP" and received a reply verifying that the bulk powder they sell to all their distributors is Pectasol-C, but sold under the various companies' own individual brand names-- just as NOW had explained. I am on the first jar of the NOW powder (purchased elsewhere, but next time I'll buy from Amazon, as the price here is the best) and have been taking it 3x a day for ten days. It mixes easily if allowed to set in a glass of water for 10 minutes before mixing with a fork. The taste is bland-- not objectionable. No side effects such as detox reactions so far at all, but I've done a lot of other detox procedures, so I may not be very "toxic". Or, maybe it's too soon to report. Mainly, I wanted to post the Pectasol-C info.

By J. Oswald OK, maybe this is too unbelievable, but this has taken the arthritis out of my fingers. I had knobs and misshapen fingers that hurt. The Doctor told me there was no cure, it would only get worse. My mother's hands were in my future. Both baby fingers curled at the joint, I couldn't straighten them. I have changed alot and added supplements including Vitamin C and other antioxidents. But I think (KNOW) that this was the major factor. When I took this I felt tingling and even mild pain but slowly the Hard Knobs on my fingers softened and melted away. It has been 3 months, I took this on an empty stomach one hour before meals three times a day. Amazon has the best price but please try it. Good Luck.

Modified Citrus PectinSep 05, 2011
By Jack In laboratory studies (rats), modified citrus pectin has been shown to help prevent metastases (see below).
I have added modified citrus pectin (MCP), which is a molecular weight reduced natural citrus pectin (probably acid treated to lower mol wt) to my daily regimen at the level of 5 grams (or about 1 teaspoon/day). The Now Foods product was the most reasonably priced bulk material I could find. One lb (454 g) @ 5g/day will last 90 days which at current pricing of $60.67 (free shipping) results in a daily cost per dose of 67¢ or $246/year. For those on fixed budgets or without active cancer processes, this is not an inconsiderable cost.
I have a science/technical background and worked for a company that produced pectin from citrus peel, when it came to our attention that several research oncologists (Pienta, Platt, & Raz) were looking at MCP as an anti-metastatic agent for several kinds of cancers including prostate cancer. My company supported this research for a while.
I lost track of the progress and retired from the company a few years later. The work is still going on however, but one is unlikely to hear of this from a clinical oncologist or many other medical information avenues as there is no money in it. That is no drug company is ever going to pick this up as it is in the public domain as a readily available natural product and thus will not benefit from large and expensive clinical trials and subsequent commercial development.
[...I had originally inserted a link here but apparently Amazon does not allow such. Google: Modified Citrus Pectin Inhibition of Cancer Cell Growth and Metastases By Jim English and Ward Dean, MD to find relevant technical information and science literature references. Do your own reading a research and draw your own conclusions.]
So while the treatment is still around, you will not hear about it from your oncologist, your neighbor, or even some magazine or newspaper. Yet anyone can avail themselves of this by simply adding an acid treated modified pectin to their daily diet. If one has an active cancer or not, this treatment is not likely to do much, if any harm. It is just pectin, after all, and we all get a little bit of that from time to time in our diets naturally. However, the difference here is that the modified (acid treated) pectin is lower in molecular weight, whereas untreated pectin is indigestible and this is a form of fiber in the gut.
I have no special knowledge about the Now Food MCP product, or even if the mol wt distribution is sufficiently centered around the most effective region, or even what the preferred mol wt range and distribution is. I am simply adding this to my daily regimen (I have no known cancer AFAIK) in hopes that it may help if and when I ever do develop a metastatic neoplastic condition. Cancer is a genetic disease (Muckerjee, "The Emperor of All Maladies") and becomes increasingly likely the longer one lives.
The one issue that I have with the product, which takes some experimentation to overcome, is getting it into suspension in water. It is not readily dispersed, though it is in a fine powder form. What I have done is to full a small personal blender cup with cold water and slowly sprinkle a spoonful of the powder across the surface a little at a time. As the powder slowly wets, it will sink. But you have to wait for it.
Then I usually add some Metamucil powder (ground psyllium husks to increase my daily fiber owing to reoccurring colon polyps) and blend the two for about 10-15 seconds. Both are adequately suspended in about 8 oz of water this way.
Alternatively, before I got the small personal blender($15-$30+), I used a small Mason jar and just shook the wetted powder vigorously until the wetted MCP clump was dispersed. The small personal blender works best.
There may be a short period of intestinal discomfort of a few days when one starts this product, but one's gut soon adjusts.
I have no interest in Now Foods or any on-going pectin or other businesses, including any food supplements, vitamins or the like. I offer the above as only my personal rationale for using this product. I make no claims that it is either beneficial or effective, nor do I recommend that others use this product.

Decent StuffJul 19, 2011
By Caligal For the price, this is alright. But I wish it were organic. We put it a spoonful on cereal. The taste is kind of malty and it doesn't mix well with juice. It might work better in smoothies blended.

Modified Citrus PectinJul 06, 2011
By Cheryl in TX Delivery and service from this company was excellent and everything was as represented. I do not know if this product contains pectasol because the label on Now foods Modified Citrus Pectin does not claim to have any pectasol content whatsoever!!!! So review for the Now Foods Modified Citrus Pectin is very very poor product until I verify that it contains the pectasol. So the company is excellent but the product is of very questionable value as based on the label because it doesn't state that it contains any pectasol!!!
