First time user-- very happyDec 07, 2008
By Heather Melton I had never used henna before trying this product. The powder smelled a little funny, but made a paste that was very easy to work with when mixed with hot water according to the directions. This container has enough henna for two applications on medium-length hair. My hair is naturally reddish-brown, and this color added a very natural orange-red tint that darkened after the second application. It also made my hair less frizzy and shinier. I would buy this again.

works really well and is healthySep 28, 2007

in using this product (I mix it with roiboos tea - (healthy tea, that makes terrible stains), my hair doesn't need washing as often in the beginning and it colors hair really well. I get three times coloring out of one box - that makes it a 2-3 dollar treatment - can't complain about that one (though it is kind of messy - but well - be creative - the kitchen sink is big enough to handle anything!!). Cover the messy hair then with a plastic bag to give it some heat (plastic bags are dangerous over ones head - don't let your little ones see it !!) and cover it with an old towel - for about 1-2 hours.

nice for beginnersMar 22, 2008

I applied this to my daughter's hair. Her natural color is dark blonde to light brown. The Persian Light Brown gave her golden to strawberry blond highlights. It looked very nice, shiney and so soft. This is a nice product for those that don't want to chemically treat their hair.
On the down side is application and mess. It is really messy and thick. You have to work to get it evenly throughout your hair. Tip: have a friend help you. It takes several minutes to get all of the organic matter out of your hair. I suggest using a nice conditioner to help move the product out of your hair.

So SHINY!Jan 19, 2012
By Tattercat I've been using various mixes from Rainbow Henna for 6 months now. I LOVE it. I started getting grays at 22 years old and didn't want to use harsh chemicals to cover them. Even though I've been dying my hair with the Henna for half a year my hair is still shiny and healthy.
The Henna mixes are all combinations of one or more of; Henna (Lawsonia Inermis) Cassia Obovata, Chamomile, marigold flower and Indigofereae.
The Henna is just red. The Cassia is practically colorless but don't use it if you have pure gray hair it will make it slightly blond. The Marigold and the Chamomile have very a very slight lightening effect, more when mixed with lemon juice. The Indigo (Indigofereae) is mixed with Henna to give various shades of brown to black.
You can find out what specific herbs are used in each shade at the Rainbow Research website. http://www.rainbowresearch.com/index.php?cPath=24&sort=2a&page=1
The first few days after you use henna your hair may be a very bright shade. This will fade to a more natural shade, so don't panic. Henna is a semi temporary dye, so I'd recommend testing a few strands first as it's not going to wash out for a long while.
I have light brown hair naturally and I find I have to leave the henna on for much longer then the 45min recommended in the instructions. I'll leave it on anywhere from 2 hours to 4 depending on how bright I want it.
As some of the other reviews said, have someone help you! You'll need a towel you don't mind staining, gloves, and a plastic bag or saran wrap to wrap your hair in while the henna is soaking in.
I hope this helps!

It's alright, but I'd go with a different brand next time.Feb 04, 2011
By J. Smith This was my first experiment using henna, so the price point was good but I wouldn't necessarily go with this brand again.
My major problem was with the grain of the henna, the higher priced (and I'm assuming quality) hennas I've seen have a very fine grain and come out as a nice creamy looking paste. This henna, after mixing with lemon juice and letting it sit overnight, still felt really sandy and grainy.
The problem with this is that because it was so grainy the paste didn't sit well on my hair and ended up all over my floor which, luckily, I had covered.
I used a free e-book from hennaforhair.com to make the mix, and in the future I think I will go with their product recommendations as everyone in their forums seemed to love the results.
