Finally, A Fragrance Free Shampoo/ConditionerMay 25, 2006
By David A. Lessnau I'm folding my reviews for Earth Science's "Pure Essentials" Fragrance Free Shampoo and Conditioner together. In a nutshell, if you're looking for a shampoo and a conditioner that don't stink, go no further: you've found them. My wife and I recently spent about 45 minutes going through the hair care aisle in Wal-Mart looking for something that didn't stink. We smelled the contents of every variety in that 25 foot long, 2 sided aisle to no avail. Everything either stank of bubble-gum, fruits, or perfume. I finally found these products here and gave them a try. The shampoo is completely odorless and the conditioner has only a very slight smell to it (it's so slight, it's hard to tell what it smells like, but it smells sort of "moist" (perhaps glycerin?)).
Anyway, along with the smell, I was also worried about it's "sudsyness." No worry there, either. The shampoo works fine. I did have to wash my hair twice to get a full head of bubbles, but that could have been just because it was the first time I used it.
My last worry is whether or not my hair will dry out. It'll take a few days for me to determine that. So, I'll revise this review when I figure it out. So far, though, I'm very pleased with these products and rate them at 5 stars out of 5.
PS: I'm not allergic to the various frangrances manufacturers put into their products: I just can't stand the stench. So, I can't really say whether these products will be any good for those with severe allergies. But, if you are allergic, these are probably excellent products to try.
UPDATE: I've been using these products for over a week now. First, it still takes two washes to get a full head of suds. It's not a big thing, but it is a bit more effort than with regular shampoo. Second, my fear of drying out my hair was unfounded. No problem there at all. Unfortunately, there IS a problem: with these products, it's much harder to run a brush/comb through my hair. It's not that there are tangles or snarls or anything like that. The brush just doesn't glide through like it used to. Since I have fairly short hair, it's not too bad for me. But, my wife, with her longer hair, had to go back to a regular shampoo/conditioner. Because of this, I'd drop my rating from 5 stars down to 4 stars if Amazon would let me.

great!Jul 12, 2005
By SV I recently tried this shampoo looking for a brand that didn't contain sodium laurel sulfate (itchy scalp oy!), or penetration enhancers like Propylene Glycol (allows other chemicals to penetrate skin), preservatives like Methylparaben (which may alter hormone levels and put unborn child at risk), Cocamide DEA /MEA (may contain impurities or combine with other chemicals to form carcinogenic nitrosamines), and (Cocamidopropyl Betaine which may containe nitrosamines). At least this is what I've read. I'm no chemist. I may be misinformed, so take it with a grain of salt.
It basically seems the lesser of other evils, and doesn't contain fragrance (which may be stinky or irritate).
Supposedly chamomile is good for blond highlights, and jojoba and panthenol is good for hair (strength?).
At any rate I found that when I used this shampoo I needed to wash my hair every other day or less, though there was an acclimation period. Now since I've run out and decided to use up an old shampoo (John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Shampoo, which contains above "bad" ingredients!), I find I need to wash my hair everyday (and it looks greasy a lot!) Yuk! I'm switching back to Earth Science.

Love this productJul 30, 2007
By RhiannaWolfmoon I have perfume sensitivities - cannot use anything containing perfumes or even essential oils. I love this shampoo. I have tried several fragrance free shampoos and they either made my hair feel like straw, didn't lather, made my hair feel weighed down & greasy, or smelled off - a chemical/chlorine like smell. This shampoo lathers very well & doesn't weigh my hair down at all, no funky smell (I have a heightened sense of smell so I can smell some things others can't -some fragrance free products do still bother me).

Great ProductSep 02, 2007
By Wade W. I have a sensitivity to srong perfumes and scents that have forced me to rarely use any kind of store-bought shampoos, even baby shampoo, which can be highly perfumed for some reason. When I buy a bottle, it lasts for years, because the only thing I've found that doesn't cause me problems in the shower is Original (Aqua) Zest soap, and that is what I use from head to toe. I rarely use shampoo because the typical strong scent makes my eyes water and gives me a sinus headache. Years ago, Ivory Soap made unscented shampoo and conditioner that was the best product I had ever used, but they discontinued production due to poor sales. I wish I had bought a case of Ivory before it halted. I purchased the Earth Science shampoo and have used it twice. It's great! It performs well when it comes to sudsing-up and cleaning. If I used an amount equal to 2 teaspoonsful each application, I'd be surprised. I had no ill affects, what so ever. I highly recommend this product for anyone that has a sensitivity to highly scented shampoos. The only complaint I have is that the shipping for my order was more than the actual cost of the product. It cost me about $10 for this shampoo, but so far, for me, it's worth it.

I have chemical senstivities. This is the only shampoo that does not give me a horrible headache, brain fuzziness, or make me sneeze due to smells. I've been using it for 2 years now. Highly recommended.
