Highest 5-Star Quality IFOS certified fish oil for the best price.Jun 30, 2011
By Rafael Gonzalez I noticed that among Highest 5-Star Rated IFOS certified oil - this product was the lowest priced - high quality product. (Especially, compared to other 5-Star Rated fish oils).
I guess I have a little O.C.D. when it comes to taking supplements on daily basis. I am very leery of the claims made by the hundreds of products in the market - so I did some research:
If you are going to take a supplement every day for the rest of your life, how can you be sure you are not getting dangerous toxins in the fish? How can you make sure you are getting the actual dosage and quality that are listed on the label?
Answer: IFOS Independent Certification. This is what separates the "Best" from all the "Others" that you might find at Walmart or Target. The IFOS is an independent Canadian company that tests fish oils. Their most popular reports are the 5 Star Ratings Reports.

IFOS certified fish oil - as recommend by Dr. Sears - "Zone Diet" and "Anti-inflammatory Nutrition" http://www.drsears.com/Default.aspx
Dr. Sears warns us to pay attention to what we buy. This is a pharmaceutical fish oil preliminarily tested by International Fish Oil Standards program (IFOS). The AHA's lab studies certified that all brands of pharmaceutical fish oil, even the cheapest, were free from toxins, at the moment of testing. But some of them did not meet the doses advertised on the label.

What are IFOS Fish Oils? [...]
These are ultra high grade fish oils that have been tested to meet very strict standards of purity and quality. IFOS is an acronym for International Fish Oils Standards.
The IFOS is an independent Canadian company that tests fish oils. Their most popular reports are the 5 Star Ratings Reports. This category is used to test ultra-refined super concentrated fish oils with a minimum 60 percent combine EPA/DHA concentration.
A fish oil is given '5 Stars' if it meets criteria in 5 specific areas: Star 1 - Product Passes All CRN/WHO Testing Categories Star 2 - Product Tests Show Minimum 60% EPA plus DHA combined concentration Star 3 - Oxidation Level Less Than 75% of CRN Standard Star 4 - PCB Levels Less Than 50% of CRN Standard
This one of the best products I have found at Amazon, that I could not find on other nutrition sites.
The Best Quality at the Best Price - can't beat that!

great product at a great price!May 19, 2009
By Y. Teng I did intensive research before deciding on Life Extension's Super Omega-3. It gives me a decent amount of quality Omega-3 at an excellent price. And I have not been disappointed. My pre-menopause hot flashes and night sweat went away after I took it for a few months. My friend said her chest pain went away after she took it for a few weeks and now her whole extended families are on Life Extension Super Omega-3 because many of them experienced better health. I came to realize that our inadequate diet caused our premature aging. If I change my car's oil every few thousand miles faithfully, why am I not giving my body the oil it needs to function properly?! Our bodies rely on food to supply Omega-3 so do yourself a favor, starting taking fish oil! Buy what ever brand you feel that's right for you but do read the label to know how much you are getting from each capsule. And by the way, my friends and I don't have the fishy smell problem with Life Extension like the other review mentioned. I did have that problem with a "shoppe" brand.

Life extension is the best!Apr 05, 2008
By R. Morel Life extension foundation only offers excellent products. Omega 3 is lacking in most of the occidental diets and it's the cause of many deceases.
The dose of Omega 3 in this pills is 2.5times the amount you find in cheaper brands, and life extension gives us also the benefits of consuming a good amount of olive oil with a proprietary blend of olive juice that is part of this product.
You cant go wrong with Life extension. Omega 3 is necessary for its anti clotting properties, anti inflammatory, it is found in great quantities in the brain and is associated with cartilage creation among other things. Unless that you are consuming a couple pounds per week of deep ocean fish (salmon, sardines) you are in need of omega 3 supplementation.
If you have cholesterol problems i suggest you check your analysis before you start this supplement and one month after. Remember that the best indicative of health issues is not the amount of good cholesterol, but the relation between the good and the bad.

Certified IFOS 5 star productFeb 04, 2012
By J. Evans This is a new variety to me. I purchased them because of the 5 star International Fish Oil Standards certification. I had been taking Healthy Choice Naturals Fish Oil Supplement but switched when they never came back with an answer when I asked if their product had been tested for purity and actual content.
I have been taking fish oil products for years per my doctor's advise to help lower my cholesterol. Unfortunately they are not effective enough for me to do this alone: I also must take a pill (currently Zetia). This was proved last year when I stopped taking Zetia a few months after quitting eating meat & chicken. My Total cholesterol went up significantly.
Although I still eat wild caught fish, I mainly take these for the Omega-3 EPA/DHA. Per the label, the recommended dosage is two softgels twice daily (=4). This comes to $0.70 per day at $20.98 I paid per 120 count bottle. ONE softgel provides 1000mg of Wild Fish Oil Concentrate yielding 350mg EPA and 250mg DHA. This dosage is a lot more than my previous brand which recommended one or two 1000mg (yielding 420EPA/280DHA) softgels per day. Consequently this double dose makes it more than twice as expensive. The FDA has not established any guidelines for fish oil, recommendations range all over the place. So do concentrations of EPA/DHA per 1000mg from different suppliers. For a government write up of fish oil by the NIH, including what reasons/diseases it might be good for and different dosages for each, see: <...>
While these softgels are much larger than any other fish oil softgels I have taken, I haven't had any problems swallowing them. There is a distinct odor when opening the bottle, but not bad. I have not experienced any fishy taste or burping with them but then I didn't with other brands.
Unfortunately, the softgels contain gelatin, which is an animal product. They also do not contain Vitamin E. Fish oil can reduce vitamin E levels and it is also believed to help preserve the product.
So whether I will buy this product again is unknown. Since fish don't produce the EPA/DHA but accumulate it from what they eat, I am researching about going down the food chain to Krill Oil or ultimately algae sources.
