Planetary Herbals offers two newly reformulated, herbal combinations for enhancing natural defenses and mobilizing immune support: Yin Chiao Classic and Yin Chiao-Echinacea Complex. These celebrated formulas combine time-revered herbs, each with a long history of supporting a healthy immune system. Yin Chiao is one of the most relied-upon of all classic Chinese herbal formulas for optimal health during the changing seasons. And traditional and modern herbalists alike celebrate the extraordinary health properties of echinacea, the primary North American immune-enhancing botanical. For generations, both have been used to nourish and strengthen the body during seasonal changes, when the body’s defenses might be weakened. Yin Chiao: Chinese Winter Health Classic Yin Chiao, developed during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), has been a staple of traditional herbalists and acupuncturists, and a household name in China, for hundreds of years. It is used for imbalances associated with seasonal changes and is one of the most valued of all classic Chinese herbal formulas. This prized traditional formula combines the following immune-boosting and fortifying herbs: honeysuckle flower, forsythia fruit, Chinese mint leaf, phragmites rhizome, burdock seed, platycodon root, soy sprout, licorice root, schizonepeta aerial parts, and lophatherum leaf.

Fantastic Cold/Sinus RemedyNov 27, 2009

I have been very successful using this to combat colds and sinus problems. It is a staple in my medicine cabinet; one of those rare unknown products that really works for me. I can't recommend it more highly. I gave it to a friend who had chronic sinus infection breath, and they were better in two days. Update: Seems there might be some misleading advertisement on the 750mg size tablets of this. I saw on a different advertisement for this same product that you have to take "2" of these tablets to achieve the 750 mg dose. Minor detail that is left out of that specific size of the product description, effectively making the price of this product double what it appears. The bottle labeled 450mg tablets seems to have a clearer label and price.

I never had much interest in Chinese medicine until a friend recommended Yin Chiao to help prevent the frequent colds I was suffering. I take this product at the first sign of a sniffle, and nearly every time it stops the cold cold! Definitely worth trying.

Magic PillsDec 18, 2011
By Yes I've been using Yin Chiao pills for over 25 years. I offer them to people all the time, when they first feel a sore throat coming on or sneeze for the first time. It's a tough sell, though. How can you prove that something prevents something from happening? I swear by them. I have some at home, some at work. Don't want to miss taking them right away! You'll have to make your own decisions, though, about which brands are best. I must have thought these folks were reliable. Probably checked their ingredient list against the brand I got from my acupuncturist. (Listing ingredients is a darn good sign, don't you think? I wouldn't buy any herbal, especially any herbal with multiple ingredients, without seeing what's in it.)
I don't take them as directed on the site. I take 3 or 4 or 5 when I feel the very first symptom (or...better yet...when I get that slightly-off feeling before any symptom at all) and again when it occurs to me to do so. And then I don't get sick. But maybe I wasn't *going* to get sick. Don't know. Don't much care. Maybe it's all just placebo effect. Don't mind. I'm happy to just never have the cold or sore throat materialize. I'm happy to have the malaise go away.
A couple decades back, the Chinese ones in the green and white box got so popular you could get them at the check-out at Whole Paycheck in Mill Valley instead of finding them in Chinatown (SF). Now I prefer to let someone else vet the quality of the herbs that go in the magic pills.
